Detlef Mertins

It's with great sadness that I have another death to mark. Detlef Mertins, former Chair at Penn, who played a formative role in my career by hiring me for a semester at Penn, has passed away.  

Deltef was a brilliant scholar and a good person. I truly enjoyed my time teaching for a semester at Penn with him and deeply appreciated how much he believed in me.
